Internet Tapping, Internet Surveillance, Phone Tapping, Internet Tracking are all similar terms for the same thing - "people listening" to what you are doing on the Internet.
This can take many forms, at the extreme "everything you do", but more commonly is just your web browsing - but could be anything in between. This is a complex and varied subject with vulnerabilities through different connections and different countries.
The legalities of "intenet tapping" (at any level) are questionable and invariably complex e.g. which country is it occurring in ? which country are you physically in when connected etc etc.
Needless to say, if you are a subscriber to the uk:anon service then you are protected by a similar SSL-base security mechanism as your bank uses for secure online banking.
