How to determine your internet speed?

Answer -

There are many methods of determining your internet speed from any given location. Using the uk:anon service, there are actually 3 internet speeds you need can measure and compare from any location in the world. The key is to pick the same test and run it through each access method from the same location in sequence and then compare the results (not recommended over mobile broadband connections slower than 3G)

  1. Without our uk:anon client software loaded (i.e. not protecting your IP address)
  2. Via our uk:anon UK Datacenter Servers
  3. Via our uk:anon US Datacenter Servers

PLEASE NOTE : Results can differ for many factors e.g. time of day, location, LAN connection type (wired or wireless), Broadband connection type (ADSL/Cable/SDSL). These tests are only "indicative" of speed & the likelihood that ricjh-media (TV streams) can be sustained. As a rule of thumb, a 2 meg broadband connection speed should enable decent media performance.

Let us walk you though a fairly easy example.

 First of all, exit from the uk:anon software (right-click on the tray icon & select exit). Open a browser session & navigate to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics. After the page has loaded, click on the "Start Test" button and wait for the tests to finish and the results are displayed.

Start the uk:anon software (Start, Programs, ProxyCap). Select the "Use UK Servers" menu option (right-click on the tray icon and select Use UK Servers). Open a browser session & navigate to http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/diagnostics. After the page has loaded, click on the "Start Test" button and wait for the tests to finish and the results are displayed.
